It is with sadness that I announce this as the last Letter from Apricale. After just a year in Italy, irreconcilable differences surfaced between us and we are splitting up. Frances is returning to England and I will stay here. The house has been sold so I’m afraid those of you who enjoyed holidays here and wanted to return will be disappointed.
I am truly sorry that all this has happened, but the cracks were developing long before we came here. The Riviera is a cruel place for shaky relationships and the results can be seen everywhere. If there’s a lesson to be learnt, it’s that you should never move house on retirement, and certainly not to a new country.
A new diary will start in due course, under a new title. I’ll send out invitations to re-register but I’d understand if many would prefer not to.
